In gi competition, many might see it as being illegal. I had Jeff perform it on me and an argument could be made that I’m essentially choking myself out with my forearm. However, most people, especially refs, might see it as a neck crank. If a choke is being employed at the same time as a neck crank, it is usually is seen as legal. However this technique would be legal at a submission grappling tournament like NAGA.
