In Japanese, this technique is called a sacrifice throw. The reason for that is that you must sacrifice giving up your back in order to successfully complete the throw. Now, when jiu-jitsu people imagine giving up the back, they think that someone is about to get their hooks in and go for the choke. But in judo, giving up the back means bringing your back down to the mat and putting yourself in jeopardy of giving up the ippon (points).
